With a dreamlike stage, featuring a crescent moon, window panes and even an owl, Cam’s Burning House Tour made its debut in New York City last night. The Meatpacking District was graced with the bubbly blonde’s personality as well as her flawless voice.  Cam reminisced about her first time playing in New York City over two years ago (opening for Dan + Shay), and expressed humility and excitement about being able to headline her own tour.

Country newcomer Adam Sanders opened the show, singing a few of his songs cut by other artists, including Dustin Lynch’s “Hell of a Night.”  Sanders stood alone on stage for the 35-minute acoustic set, and shared a new song he shared with the audience.  “All Americans” was much needed in the midst of the turmoil and unrest following this week’s election. “From the concrete jungle to the small town struggle it’s time to take a stand,” was a perfect lyric to hear, expressing call for unity.  Sanders closed his set with his first number one hit, “Ain’t Worth the Whiskey” (Cole Swindell), and asked the crowd to join in on the last verse. The singalong echoed resounding pride for our country on the eve of Veterans Day.

Opening her 90-minute set with songs from her debut album Untamed, Cam had the crowd singing along to upbeat tracks like “My Mistake” and “I Want It All.” Dressed in a blue ruffled romper and her signature bright yellow heels, she interacted with the crowd as she sang. An absolute dreamy moment in the night was Cam’s cover of “Sweet Dreams” by one of her biggest influences, the impeccable Patsy Cline.  The set was filled with stars to set the mood for the cover.

During this slowed-down acoustic set, she also covered Lori McKenna’s “Old Men Young Women.” Reminiscing on a Bluebird Cafe memory featuring singer songwriter Tom Kimmel, she sang “No One Gets to Heaven” (There is a light in the dark when we need it the most / There is a way through this world if we keep this in mind / That no one gets to heaven if anybody else is left behind). You could hear the crowd absorbing the song, and she was rewarded for the touching moment with thunderous applause.

“I’m going to have my little Mr. Rogers moment now,” she said, as she changed out of her yellow pumps into tennis shoes, explaining, “We are going to rock now and I don’t care what anyone says, Beyonce is the only one who can truly dance in heels.” The stars in on stage changed to sparkling lights, and the set changed to a neon wonderland as she finished the show with “Runaway Train,” “Cold in California,” and an encore performance of her top five hit “Burning House.”

Between the magic in Cam’s voice and the crowd’s interaction, the Burning House Tour was one to remember.
