Changing Lanes: 5 Country Tracks for the Justin Timberlake Fan

Justin Timberlake is headlining Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival in Franklin this weekend, and will probably further prove that he can do anything and be better at it than the rest of us mere mortals. If JT’s music is your thing, but you’re not sure that Americana or country music is, don’t worry.

Remember when Justin Timberlake and Chris Stapleton performed at the 2015 CMA Awards and everyone lost their minds? They did a combination of JT’s song “Drink You Away” and Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” that propelled Stapleton to the top of must-listen lists and solidified Timberlake’s undercover country chops. Here are five more songs from this genre that we think you’ll like if you’re a JT fan:

  1. All On Me – Devin Dawson

Dawson hits those delicious high notes with ease just like Justin, and his voice has the same easy, smooth delivery. “All On Me” has a laid back pop sound to it that JT fans crave. The “cool guy/leather jacket wearing/urban looking” vibe is also shared between these two.

  1. Ex To See (15 in a 30 Tour Live) – Sam Hunt

Sam Hunt has long been identified as a country crossover artist, but it’s particularly obvious on this tour version of “Ex To See.” Production-wise, it’s pretty intense and sprinkled with EDM, and the dominant beat totally gives off “What Goes Around…/…Comes Around” vibes. Paging JT and Sam Hunt – mashup please?

  1. Legends – Kelsea Ballerini

JT has had so many amazing pop hits, and Kelsea Ballerini’s pop-influenced country style is highly similar. Her songs, like his, are high energy, powerful, and unlike anything else out there. “Legends” is a standout. (And as previously discussed, Justin Timberlake is perfect – so is Kelsea.)

  1. Heatwave – Florida Georgia Line

Cool, modern production is a huge part of Justin Timberlake’s music, and Florida Georgia Line’s latest album Dig Your Roots focuses on that same concept. “Heatwave” is the top production achievement of the album, with layers and layers of incredible tracks that will intrigue Timberlake’s fans. It also has that R&B feel that JT does so well.

  1. Craving You – Thomas Rhett ft. Maren Morris

Timberlake is known for songs with gigantic, overwhelming choruses and sonic elements, and this song by Thomas Rhett (featuring Maren Morris) is of phenomenal proportions. There is so much sound, so much energy, and of course, killer vocals. Definitely worth listening to at the highest volume, much like JT’s “Mirrors” or “Drink You Away.”
