For any hopeless romantic out there, Dan + Shay’s new single “From the Ground Up,” the first from their upcoming album, is sure to make you swoon. Released on Friday, February 5th, the song depicts an epic love story that would give Nicholas Sparks a run for his money. “Just take my hand,” the artists sing, “I’ll be the man your dad hoped that I’d be/ and we’ll build this love from the ground up/ for worse or for better.”
In an exclusive iHeart Radio video, the duo discuss that their grandparents’ love was the inspiration behind the heartwarming tune. With vulnerable lyrics, albeit slightly cliched, the sweet sentiment and powerful vocals set the song apart from the carefree party anthems that fill the airwaves today. Although this is not the first love song Dan + Shay have gifted listeners with, it is one that shows their growth as artists and pays tribute to the storytelling style of songwriting that embodies true country music.
As if the lyricism weren’t enough to get fans misty-eyed, the duo simultaneously released the single’s music video, which pictures a couple’s journey through love—hardships and all.
