Demo: Unreleased Jake Owen Song “Lonely Like Me”

Jake Owen played this song at shows from time to time between 2009 and 2011, and even posted a teaser on his website at one point, suggesting it was once in the running for inclusion on 2011’s Barefoot Blue Jean Night.

“This is a song I wrote about the road,” he says.

Owen had said it was one of his favorite songs he’d ever written to date.

“Lonely Like Me” is a co-write with Jimmy Ritchey, who also wrote Owen’s “The One That Got Away,” and Scooter Carusoe, who co-wrote Brett Eldredge’s current #1 “Mean To Me.”

We can, will, and have devoted hours to praising Carusoe’s writing style in particular, and his fingerprints are particularly evident on this track, with subtle, simple, and powerful imagery. Compare with his demo “The Years (Franklin Street),” an un-released David Nail co-write about a woman with whom he’s lost touch, or “Like I Know This Road,” an homage to the side effects of distance.
