If you haven’t taken the time to delve into Jason Aldean’s early album cuts, you’re doing yourself a gigantic disservice. Songs like “On My Highway,” “Back In This Cigarette,” and “I Believe In Ghosts,” to name just a few, stand out as highlights from Aldean’s spectacular catalog.

“Do You Wish It Was Me” is one of those perhaps less-well-known gems, first appearing on Aldean’s 2007 sophomore release Relentless. Written by Rodney Clawson and Julie Adkison, the song is expressive and solid, with the record perfectly showcasing Aldean’s ability to be both emotive and strong in the same melismatic breath.

It’s always fascinating to hear the demos of songs before they’re recorded, and “Do You Wish It Was Me” is no exception. Note how closely the demo resembles the record – perhaps some things are so compelling as originally pitched that few changes are required.
