Eric Church’s Next Single Is “Roller Coaster Ride”

Eric Church’s next single will be “Roller Coaster Ride,” serving as the sixth single from his most recent album The Outsiders.

Church’s singles from The Outsiders have been very hit or miss at radio – “The Outsiders,” “Cold One,” and “Wrecking Ball” hit #25, #20, and #11 respectively, while “Give Me Back My Hometown” and “Talladega” went #1. “Roller Coaster Ride” is less experimental in its sonic composition than some of the other tracks on the album, so it (like “Talladega” and “Hometown”) may prove less polarizing at radio.

Radio aside, the song isn’t among Church’s strongest, especially conceptually – it’s not bland, but it doesn’t carry the weight of songs like “A Man Who Was Gonna Die Young” wit of “Cold One,” or grit of “The Outsiders.” “Since you had to go, I’ve been on a roller coaster ride,” Church laments on the hook. Vocally, however, Church sounds great as usual, with his signature tone and phrasing over a bed of crunchy electrics.
