Born in the Shoals area of Alabama, Nashville-based artist Jenny Ray has always had a love for music. From spending hours as a kid doing her best Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Michelle Branch, and Britney Spears karaoke impressions to playing hundreds of shows across the Southeast and in New York City, performance has always been a part of Ray’s nature.
Today, Ray premieres with us her video for “Morning Coffee,” shot by Marisa Boras. The song, an emotive look at the fallout from a relationship, is Ray’s first single off upcoming project The Wheel.
“I wrote this song a while back in like 20 minutes,” she says. “It was probably one of the easiest songs to write but also hardest because it was such an emotional time in my life. I remember drinking my coffee and doing that whole ritual and just feeling my heart so broken, and as awful as it was I knew I needed to write it.”
