We’re so excited to premiere the latest from Matt Jordan today, the powerful “Take The Lead.” The single is the first from his upcoming release, due out in 2017 – the third to be produced by Grammy-nominated Sal Oliveri, who partnered with Jordan for 2014’s Nothing Like Home EP and last year’s Alive EP.

“I’d been working on a ballad – a real sappy love song, actually – and one of the lines (“I fumble through small talk while you wait for something sweet / But I’m better with silence and my hands on your hips”) sounded a bit too racy and straight forward for that particular song, so I stole that line and wrote a new song around it,” Jordan says of the song. “‘Take the Lead’ is really about wanting or longing for someone you don’t have, saying ‘I’ll do what I need to in order to be with you. I’ll get on your page to have you.'”

“I sit by a bonfire in my backyard, have a cigar and Shiner Bock and just leave the rest of the world behind,” the Eureka, MO native says of his songwriting process. “When I’m by a fire with a beer and cigar, it’s go time.”

Take a listen to the sultry and strong tune below, and connect with Jordan on his website, Soundcloud, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
