Granger Smith Shares His Love Story with “Happens Like That” Single

“Happens Like That” is the newest release from Granger Smith, showcasing a different side of the 37-year-old artist. This isn’t Earl Dibbles Jr., dressed in overalls shouting, “Yee Yee!” The latest song for Smith is one that has a special meaning to him, about finding love in unconventional ways.

While the song doesn’t tell the exact story of how he met his wife Amber – the couple met when she auditioned for one of his music video shoots in 2009 – there are elements which reference her (“Out of the blue sky, lost in her blue eyes”).

Smith describes how meeting someone by happenstance can (very) quickly turn into more – he proposed just seven months after meeting her. If you believe in love at first sight, you’ll understand the situations Smith references: “Ever wonder how just one drink turns into one knee down with a diamond ring?”

The song was co-written by Smith, Jordan Schmidt, Justin Wilson and Andy Albert, while Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard also contributed. It’s Smith’s first release since unveiling his album Remington back in March 2016.

Catch Smith on his headlining tour this summer, including a stop at CMA Fest’s Riverfront Stage on June 9. You can download “Happens Like That” on iTunes or listen on Spotify.
