Hear Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’s Romantic New Song “If We Were Vampires”

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit released yet another preview track from their forthcoming album, The Nashville Sound. “If We Were Vampires” takes a much gentler turn, compared to the raucous “Cumberland Gap” and lead single “Hope the High Road”. The lyrics sweetly (yet sadly) acknowledge that even the most loving and successful marriages typically end with loneliness. Isbell’s wife Amanda Shires provides romantic harmonies, and the production is stunning in its minimalism.

Key Lyrics: “If we were vampires and death was a joke / We’d go out on a sidewalk and smoke / And laugh at all the lovers and their plans / I wouldn’t feel the need to hold your hand.”

The Nashville Sound is due out June 16.
