Hidden Gem: “Down” by Miranda Lambert

Miranda Lambert is set to release her new two-disc project, The Weight of These Wings, on November 18. In the meantime, take a minute to revisit her second studio album Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The album that spawned hits like “Gunpowder & Lead” and “Famous in a Small Town” is full of other sneaky-good jams, like “Down.” It’s a pounding, rebellious, and bitter account of a woman scorned, tearing a “Kerosene”-esque path of destruction. It might be considered old-school Miranda, but it still sounds pretty damn good blasted through car speakers. The track was written by Lambert and Travis Howard.

Key Lyrics: You don’t want to be standing there / When the storm hits you won’t have a prayer / My wind will blow you to your knees / Stay away from me.”
