Hidden Gem: Kip Moore’s “Lead Me”

“Lead Me” first appeared on the Best of Me Soundtrack, a fitting release location for this emotional and romantic song. Both gritty and vulnerable, Kip Moore pulls from his wheelhouse with this, featuring a strong melody, simple lyrics, and his impressive ability to be both masculine and tender – see: “Hey Pretty Girl.” “Lead Me,” which Moore wrote with Tom Douglas (“The House That Built Me”) and Brett James, (“Jesus Take The Wheel,”) who produced Up All Night, begins with simple piano chords and Moore’s voice reaching with imploring highs. “I don’t know what I should say / to get a woman like you to look my way / all I know is just how I feel / and it’s forever like Texas, stronger than steel,” Moore sings. (For the record, we’re hoping that’s a Friday Night Lights reference.) It’s cinematic and overwrought, but not to the point of cheesy, and is a strong offering from the singer.

Moore’s currently riding his single “I’m To Blame,” which has been hovering in the 20’s at radio, and touring with Dierks Bentley, Canaan Smith, and Maddie & Tae. His sophomore album Wild Ones is due August 21st.
