Hidden Gem: “Wake Up Lovin’ You,” Old Dominion Style

If you aren’t familiar with Craig Morgan’s alarm-clock-beginning “Wake Up Lovin’ You,” the first single off 2013’s The Journey (Livin’ Hits), shame. The song is evocative, emotive, relatable; the shaky breath in the bridge is all too real. “I really believe that this will be the song of my career, because it’s a turning point,” Morgan told The Boot at the time of the song’s release.

Fun fact: the song was written by songwriter Josh Osborne, along with Trevor Rosen and Matthew Ramsey (better known as Old Dominion.) In 2014, the band shared a version of the song on Spotify, giving it a more raw take. Rosen and Ramsey have both had several cuts with other artists – a version of “Chainsaw,” recorded by The Band Perry, was also included in their release.
