Kenny Chesney Delivers Powerful Message in “Rich And Miserable” Music Video

Kenny Chesney’s music video for “Rich and Miserable” off his latest 12-track album, Cosmic Hallelujah, packs a powerful message, especially for graduating students of the Class of 2017.

In the two-minute opening of the video, actor John C. McGinley portrays a college professor with an important message for his students: “What will you be willing to give to change the word miserable to joyful?” McKinley asks. “What will you be so rich with that you will be willing to share it with the entire world? I want you to distill all that down to one word, come up here write it on the board and then walk out the door and then I want you to give it to the world.”

As the song opens and Chesney appears in an empty classroom, students walk up one by one to write down a single word that describes the legacy they wish to leave behind.

Key lyrics: “We’re too young until we’re too old / We’re all lost on the yellow brick road / We climb the ladder but the ladder just grows / We’re born, we work, we die, it’s spiritual / Enough is never enough / American dream never wakes up / Too much is never too much / We won’t be happy ’til we’re rich and miserable.”

“Rich and Miserable” was written by a team of Nashville’s top songwriters: Jesse Frasure, Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne. Watch the “Rich and Miserable” music video below and download Chesney’s Cosmic Hallelujah here.
