Luke Combs Reaches No. 1 on Country Charts with “Hurricane”

After soaring up the charts since debuting on radio last fall, Luke Combs’ hit single, “Hurricane,” landed at the No. 1 spot this week in record fashion. With the song hitting No. 1 on both Mediabase and Billboard lists, Combs becomes the fastest rising debut country artist since 2015 – taking just 24 weeks on Mediabase and 30 weeks on Billboard to claim the top spot.

“Hurricane” was initially published on Combs’ This One’s for You EP on Oct. 21, and has since received nearly 50 million plays on Spotify. In addition, the music video – which is nominated for Breakthrough Video of the Year at the upcoming CMT Awards – has totaled over 27 million views.

Combs co-wrote the song with Thomas Archer and Taylor Phillips, and the lyrics tell the story of a man who unpredictably encounters his former love in public and equates her effect on him to a hurricane.

“I was in a writing session and had thrown that title into the room,” Combs said in a video interview. “Me and the guys were catching up and they were telling a story about how a friend of theirs had recently broken up with his girlfriend and was worried about running into her. We tried to meet that title ‘Hurricane’ with the emotion of running into an ex at the bar, and I think we’ve all been in that situation.”

The single will also be included on Combs’ full-length album This One’s for You, which hits stores on June 2.
