Maddie & Tae Keep Up The Sass In ‘Girl In A Country Song’ Video

We posted about Maddie & Tae’s debut single “Girl In A Country Song” a few weeks back, praising the song for its wit and “fantastically unapologetic” lyrics. Since then, the single has become an absolute force at country radio, playing at 51 stations in its first week, and is racing up the charts.

Naturally, the next step in the “Maddie & Tae Take Over Country Music” campaign is the music video. Out today exclusively on NPR, the clip is the perfection introduction to the cheeky duo. Just like the song, the video takes a humorous shot at the “bro-country” phenomenon, complete with a “role reversal” moment which ends up with three men sporting short shorts and bikini tops.

In a genre where music videos tend to be more simplistic, “Girl In A Country Song” is a big-budgeted, glossy video that’s going to catapult the single even higher due to its virality. Even better, the video showcases a sense of charisma and star quality that’s going to take them very far.

After being hailed outside the country realm by outlets like Thought Catalog, Jezebel, and NPR, these girls have a lot of pressure riding on them to save the role of women in the genre. But we think it’s going to be an easy ride to the top of the charts for Maddie & Tae.

Bonus: the girls can do the song justice in a live, acoustic setting. Watch below:
