Maren Morris has released the video for her emotional ballad “I Could Use a Love Song,” the third single off her critically acclaimed debut album Hero. The video was directed by Alon Isocianu, who also directed the video for her hit “80s Mercedes.”
The video begins with a seemingly loving relationship between a young couple just starting their lives together. The happier times develop into complications, and the relationship fractures when the woman communicates to her partner her desire to follow a dream of being a professional dancer. He simply dismisses her goals at first, but when she persists his reaction far from encouraging, and the relationship quickly becomes toxic.
Tackling the tough terrain of following your dreams is no easy task, especially when it has devastating effects on friends, family, and loved ones, but Morris’ song does a beautiful job of portraying the emotional conflict.
