Bryan Dawley and Rachel Beauregard, otherwise known as Native Run, released their new EP “When I’m Taken” Friday and although it is only three songs, the band packs a punch with catchy hooks and their incredible vocal pairing. To tease the EP the duo released clips of each song leading up to the release date. Check out the snippets of each song below and to hear the full songs you can grab their EP on iTunes.

“Asking For a Friend” is a clever, flirtatious uptempo song, one that could absolutely hint at a pickup line that may not be rewarded with an eye roll, highlighting those uncertain first moves. The duo co-wrote the song with hitmakers Rodney Clawson and Matt Dragstrem.

“Before you brush me off and walk away /  let me start by saying / I’m just asking for a friend / who’s a little bit shy / who couldn’t help but notice when you were walking by /  who would love to get to know you / maybe later on show you / how to bank that 8 ball in the corner pocket / Take you out on the dance floor /  pop it and lock it / or get another round sit there and keep talking /  I sure hope you are but if you ain’t in / lets just say I’m just asking for a friend”

Beauregard’s beautiful voice really shines on “Bic Lighter,” the second track off the EP. Telling a tale of the spark in the relationship and reminiscing on that flame even after the embers have burned down. The duo perfectly describes the way you feel in those first few weeks of a relationship, how even clichéd comments can make you feel incredible.

The first single off the EP is the last song, “When I’m Taken” an after the breakup song, detailing those months after the initial end of the relationship. The song highlights those moments of moving on matched with an awareness from the other person that maybe they haven’t yet done the same.

“Cause you only say you want me when you see me with somebody / When you hear that I’m happy / you can’t take it when I’m taken / and I’m sorry if you’re lonely but you had your chance to hold me / you want my heart to just to break it /  it you can’t take it when I’m taken.”

Native Run have the ability to take emotions that everyone feels and add an interesting melody and their excellent harmonies to create a unique sound. Hopefully we can look forward to a full length album soon but until then, follow Native Run on their social media platforms;  InstagramTwitter and Facebook.
