Patrick Thomas Packs Piano-Powered Punch on Dynamic EP

Sharp songwriting? Dynamic vocals? Bold highs and intimate lows?

Yes, to name just a few of the highlights of Patrick Thomas’ latest EP. Patrick Thomas, released this September, is lyrically crisp, whether toeing nostalgic memories – “Closure,” “Katy” – or championing pieces of relationships – “Paint Your Body,” “Bulletproof Kiss.”

Thomas’ execution throughout the EP is subtly stunning. All five songs on the EP, produced by Will Bowen and Mark Bright, are rooted in Thomas’ signature piano prowess. Some lean more intimate, like closer “Black and White,” while songs like “Paint Your Body” have a bombastic, dynamic feel that is at home next to Coldplay or Imagine Dragons and could easily join them on pop or alternative radio.

Thomas’ vocal – which you may recognize from when he was on The Voice –is expressive and dynamic across the project. Patrick Thomas also impresses lyrically, from subtly delicious alliterative moments to simple and gripping lines: “Name tag on the waitress said Katherine / Katy, I thought of you.” The EP is meaty in its offering: strong at first spin, and increasingly engaging with deeper listens.
