2017 will be Year of the Van in the Americana music world, as the Americana Music Association announces today that Van Morrison will receive the Americana Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting at this year’s Honors & Awards. The event will take place at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on September 13, during AmericanaFest, which runs the 12-17th. Morrison will also headline Ascend Amphitheater during the Fest, taking the stage on the 14th with his daughter Shana Morrison as his special guest.
“We are humbled and couldn’t be more excited to honor Van Morrison at our premier event of the year and are thrilled to present Mr. Morrison at Ascend Amphitheater,” Jed Hilly, Executive Director of the Americana Music Association, shares in a release. “Mr. Morrison has created a catalog of music that has served as a soundtrack for our lives.”
Tickets for the show will go on sale Friday, May 19 at 10 AM Central, via www.ascendamphitheater.com. Americana Music Association members and AmericanaFest registrants will have a pre-sale opportunity on May 16.
