On The Verge: Jacob Davis

Jacob Davis

Jacob Davis has been singing and playing the guitar since the age of 15 but didn’t actually perform on stage until an open mic night while in college at LSU. The Louisiana native knew he had to be playing and writing music. He picked up and moved to Nashville at the age of 23 and currently has a publishing deal with Wrensong/Reynsong Music as a staff writer.

His first single, “Something To Remember You By,” spent some time on SiriusXM’s The Highway. Davis, who opened for Sam Hunt and Old Dominion last year, is quickly becoming a fan favorite. He’s committed to the craft of songwriting and telling an honest story which allows fans to connect with his lyrics.

The latest addition to his Soundcloud collection is a classic tale of loving fast and hard. “Sooner Than Later” tells of the burning desire of an intense relationship that comes fast and often leaves even faster.

“Sooner than later / she’s gonna fly away / and I can’t change her / all the love in the world can’t make her stay / ain’t nothing that good ever could last / she’s gonna love too hard and burn too fast”

Davis says, “I want people to relate to it – to every word of every song. I want to reach in and grab somebody.” His approach to songwriting does just that.

“The here and now is whiskey strong / tomorrow that’s already gone / but she gives all she’s got / and when you’re standing on the mountain top / yeah, that next step is quite a drop”
