With the sound of country music sound changing pretty drastically these days it is so refreshing to hear a genuine country act. William Michael Morgan, native of Vicksburg, Mississippi has been singing country since he was young. When he was only 8-years old he would run home after school and watch YouTube videos to teach himself how to play the guitar. With inspirations such as Keith Whitley, Tracy Byrd and Mark Chestnut, Morgan grew up listening to traditional country music and hopes to be considered traditional country in a world full of bro’s and pop country artists.

At only 21-years Morgan was signed to Warner Bros./Warner Music Nashville. He recently recorded a song written by fellow country hit makers Sam Hunt, Shane McAnally and Old Dominion’s Trevor Rosen. “I Met a Girl” first appeared on Hunt’s Mixtape Between the Pines. His interpretation completely transforms the song to positive reception, as shown by its success as a Highway Find on Sirius XM. In a recent interview with Storme Warren on Sirius XM’s The Highway, Morgan discussed how he wanted to find his place in today’s country music scene while sticking to his roots. “I Met a Girl” is about the right girl and wanting to take the time to find the perfect way to describe her, an element that is lost on most of the current singles describing women in country music today.

During his time in The Highway’s concert nook on Wednesday July 21st, he not only performed his current single, but gave listeners a taste of what’s to come, including an acoustic version of a new song titled “Vinyl”. It relates his relationship to an old school vinyl record. “What we’ve got is a little old fashioned / baby you’re an instant classic / they don’t make ’em no more like you / let the needle drop and play it all night / might have a little static but it’s alright / ain’t nothin’ gonna stop this groove.”  This clever catchy tune will no doubt be another big hit for Morgan.

Currently with a rising hit, embarking on his first radio tour and adorable southern charm, William Michael Morgan is one country crooner to keep your eye on.
