Anderson East Releases “King For A Day” from Forthcoming ‘Encore’ Album

East’s sophomore effort Encore is due in January, and the Americana-soul singer has already released the lead single: the Ed Sheeran-assisted “All On My Mind.” Last Friday, East offered another taste of the full project with the release of “King For A Day,” a conflicted, wistful track penned by East with Chris and Morgane Stapleton. Prominent horns – now a staple of East’s style – layer with electric guitar to create a soulful statement about taking risks and the ignoring the uncertainty of the future. The accompanying video features East and his band, as well as scenes depicting a sweet, budding alien-human romance. Though strange and unexpected, the concept works and supports the song’s lyrical message.

Key Lyrics: “We deserve to feel good even if it hurts / Even if your heart can’t look my way / Even if our love can’t stay together / I’d rather be king for a day than a fool forever.”
