Dierks Bentley Drops “Beach” Single and Announces 2016 Tour

Dierks Bentley premiered his new single, “Somewhere on a Beach,” on Tuesday. The song is Bentley’s first release since his successful Riser album, which featured introspective singles like “I Hold On” and the title track, “Riser.” His latest channels his 2014 breakup anthem, “Drunk on a Plane,” yet it lacks the same smart lyrics and snappy feel.

“Beach” feels less like Dierks and more like a haphazard combination of his peers’ perspectives and characteristics (Florida Georgia Line, Sam Hunt and Kenny Chesney come to mind). “Beach,” although cruise-ship-ready, chases too many trends to paint a true picture of Bentley as an artist. Perhaps his upcoming album will feature more of the Dierks we know and love.

Keep an eye out: Bentley is set to host the ACM Awards with Luke Bryan on April 3, and also just announced the “Somewhere on a Beach Tour” with special guests Randy Houser and Cam. His album Black is set for release sometime this year.
