Hidden Gem: Billy Currington’s “Give It To Me Straight”

Billy Currington’s most recent album, Summer Forever, may have charted “Don’t It” as the singer’s latest #1, but one of the standouts on this album is “Give It To Me Straight.” Currington is one of the genre’s best vocalists, and this emotive song is no exception, with a smooth and breathy delivery. The writing is superb as well, matching the simultaneously simmering and plaintive delivery expertly and capturing the angst and defeat of loving someone who may have cheated. “Well if I had a dollar / for every time you let me down / stood me up/ gave me the run around / I’d still spend it all on you,” Currington begins. “Give It To Me Straight” was written by Abe Stoklasa and Mark Trussell and produced by Dann Huff.
