Meet newcomers, The Cains Trio! The group comprised of siblings Taylor, Madison, and Logan Cain from Hartselle, Alabama are promoting their new single “Be Yourself With Me” and to-be-released album “Stay On Board.”

I sat down down with the trio to hear about their journey as new artists in the industry.

When did you relocate to Nashville (from Alabama)?

Taylor: We all went to high school together, then went to college, and now we live in Nashville together! Well, Madison and I have lived here for about two years and Logan moved here when he finished college. I still feel like we’re new to Nashville.

You guys all play instruments. Do any of you have a specific instrument that you prefer?

Logan: I feel like since we moved to Nashville and have met some of the best musicians in the world, we try our hand in a lot of different instruments. I primarily play drums, also guitar, bass guitar, and some piano. We like to try everything.

Taylor: We tried this thing in one of our shows where we all switched instruments on stage during a song. It was a lot of fun!

Where did you learn to play?

Taylor: Well, our daddy is a pastor in Alabama. We grew up on his tour bus and he always encouraged us to play. He taught me how to play guitar and from there we all just would pick up an instrument and learn it. I think Logan’s guitar playing increased significantly after watching School of Rock a million times.

Who are some of your musical inspirations?

Taylor: Civil Wars! Ya know, Joy did contemporary christian music growing up so I’ve been listening to her forever. We’re mourning the break up but we love to cover their music to just to keep it alive somehow.

Madison: At our last show we covered “Same Old Same Old” by the Civil Wars and so the woman who worked at the radio station at the venue sent a snippet of it to John Paul White. We were like “OH MY GOSH!”

(watch them cover it here!)

Logan: Yeah, we will be starstruck if we ever meet them and probably stay that way. We are huge fans!

Taylor: We like to pull from their intricate harmonies and raw, organic sound. I feel like that’s how our album was produced.

We love the single! Can you tell us about it?

Taylor: Whenever you’re preparing to break into a very saturated industry you’re really trying to differentiate yourself. It’s almost impossible to predict what’s going to be popular in 2015 or 2016. And that’s where “Be Yourself With Me” came from. We can only do what we like. We hope to be on the cutting edge but we can’t guarantee it so we’re just trying to do what we like!

What was the inspiration behind it?

Taylor: We tell people that when we moved to Nashville we were very overwhelmed because everyone does music, and we knew we were confident in ourselves, but we felt like we were getting sort of a highlight reel off all these other artists. We kind of we’re like “we need to true to ourselves.” Like everyone be you and we’re gonna be alright.

The Cains Trio’s debut album “Stay On Board” drops October 28th. You can preorder the album here.
