When “Saladgate” broke out earlier this summer in response to radio programmer Keith Hill’s comments about female artist’s place on country radio, Jennifer Nettles responded to all of the hoopla with a tweet saying “I see an opportunity here. I big ole vagina shaped opportunity. ‪#yesisaidvagina ‪#trynottofaint.” True to her word, Nettles jumped at the chance to show radio programmers that female artists deserve a bigger slice of the airplay with the release of her latest single, “Sugar.”

The new track has an infectious bounce that’s reminiscent of Sugarland’s hits “All I Want to Do” and “Stuck Like Glue.” Nettles has hit the sweet spot (pun intended) in finding a radio friendly balance between country and pop, thanks to the well-crafted blend between her signature twang and a repetitive hook. Dann Huff (Keith Urban, Hunter Hayes) worked his production magic on the tune that Nettles co-wrote with powerhouses Jessie Jo Dillon and Brandy Clark.
