Texas native Olivia Lane recently released an EP, Love Thing, that emits a ray of sunshine almost as big as the Lone Star state itself.  The three tracks on the EP are decidedly country, and yet contain very subtle pop undertones that contribute a bit to the work’s upbeat flavor.  It is evident that Olivia has a knack for storytelling–a talent that is complemented by her rich and confident vocals.

Olivia graduated from USC in 2013 and immediately hit the road to move to Nashville and pursue her passion for music.  The EP captures the essence of what it feels like to be a young dreamer.

The title track, “Love Thing” talks about wanting that extra spark in a relationships, saying “normal is overrated/I want fun and complicated.”  The tune has been featured on SiriusXM’s the “Fresh Female Faces” on The Highway.

“Long Way to Go” is sweet song about wanting to take things slow in the beginning of a relationship.  She sings, “I’m cool with it if you steal a kiss/ but let’s not get too crazy.”  Her YouTube web series, which chronicles her Nashville journey, is appropriately named after this song.

The highlight of the EP, though, is “Steal Me Away.”  You can’t help but smile and want to tap your foot along starting at the very beginning of the song. It’s fun to sing along to the “Ooh-Oohs” that are peppered through the tune, which help convey the sentiment of wanting to be swept off her feet by someone special.

It’s artists like Olivia Lane and EPs like Love Thing that are going to put solo-female artists back on the map in country music.
