Exclusive Listen: Meet Troy Jones & Hear His Demos of “Pretty Good At Drinking Beer” and “Shiftwork”

One of the things that’s incredibly important to us at The Shotgun Seat is featuring not only amazing songs, but highlighting the talented writers behind them. We couldn’t be more excited to introduce you to the incredible Troy Jones, and to give you an exclusive listen to the demos that ended up being recorded by the likes of Kenny Chesney, George StraitBilly Currington, and Joe Nichols.

Jones hasn’t always been a full-time songwriter. Before any of his major cuts, Jones worked for 20 years at a paper mill, where he came to be known by coworkers as the “Fork Lift Philosopher.” Eventually his songwriting led him to Nashville and a publishing deal with Carnival Music.

Jones’s writing credits now include Billy Currington’s #1 songs “Pretty Good At Drinking Beer” and “People Are Crazy,” as well as Kenny Chesney and George Strait’s duet, “Shiftwork,” which peaked at #2 on the Hot Country chart.

Check out Jones’s demos for “Pretty Good At Drinking Beer” and “Shiftwork,” classic country songs that sound like full recordings in their own right, as well as a video featuring Jones’s writing and story above.
