Hidden Gem: Chris Young covers Eric Clapton’s “Change the World”

Chris Young lends his beautiful voice to this powerful nineties hit during his live shows and it can now be found on Youtube. This 3 time Grammy winning song was originally recorded by Eric Clapton. Written by Tommy Sims, Gordon Kennedy, and Wayne Kirkpatrick and produced by pop music record producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, “Change the World” was a tremendous hit almost 20 years ago. Released in 1996, the song reached number one on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart and stayed there for 81 weeks.

Although the Clapton version is a classic, Chris Young has modernized the song. His soulful voice, singing mainly in falsetto captivates the listener. He could release this song into the current country market and guarantee it would hit the top of the charts once again. From the familiar first notes of the song, you are transported by the soft yet sexy vocals and the almost painful lyrics. The yearning to prove his love, and hopefully be loved in return is everything to him. Subtly bluesy with Young’s country twang makes this a song you can listen to on repeat.
