Song of the Day: “The Truth” by Jason Aldean

Jason Aldean is a master at delivering vulnerable, heartfelt ballads, and Jason Aldean’s 2009 hit “The Truth” is no exception. Written by Brett James and Ashley Monroe, “The Truth” explores the difficulties of getting over someone. James played the song at Cornman Music’s Tin Pan South writers’ round this past week, saying that the song was a bit of a deviation from the standard in terms of the way it was written, since it doesn’t explain what the truth is (“I still need you, baby that’s the truth”) until the outro, something that typically would be done in the hook.

Fun fact: “The Truth” was actually recorded and released by Trent Wilmon in 2008, before Aldean released it as a single.
