Taylor Watson Releases Debut, Self-Titled EP

TW

Taylor Watson, one of Nashville’s newest emerging artists, independently released her debut, self-titled EP today. Produced by Paul Worley and David Huff, the six-song EP is impressive to say the least, as Watson succeeds at creating a unique sound in an industry that demands originality; a challenge for every new artist. Citing Michelle Branch, Taylor Swift and The Script as musical influences, Watson fuses her pop, country and indie sounds into one.

Highlights:

“High School Heart”

Seems like all I’ve done since graduation day

Is build these barricades

Every tear, another brick

My heart can’t climb over it

I’m too young to hide my love away, but too old not to learn from my mistakes

Stuck somewhere in between

Now I’m drinking alone just to fall asleep

This song is a step away from the typical, up-tempo track you’d expect when first reading the words “high school” in the title. Wishing away a heart calloused by heartbreak to a freer time when ignorance was bliss, Watson provides smooth vocals to the lyrically driven song.

“Mine”

No song and dance

No fake romance

Gonna stand a chance with me now

Cause I’m taking back

What I shoulda had

When you told me I’d be the first and the last and all ya had was mine

Well now it’s mine

Mine all mine, all mine

Watson’s voice continues to impress and of all the songs on her EP, this one certainly has the most country feel; resembling Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.” A fun, uptempo track telling the story of a scorned woman, this song was recorded by Jody Direen and hit Top 10 on the iTunes Country Music Chart in New Zealand.

“Tequila Rain”

A little you, a little tequila, a little rain

This dancing slow by the fire keeps fanning the flames

Seems like the perfect storm is coming our way

I’ve had too much, but I still can’t get enough

Of you, a little tequila, a little rain

This is a sultry track with a melody that resembles some of Colbie Caillat’s hits. It’s not loud in its instrumentation, and harmonies enhance the hook perfectly.

Track List:

1. “High School Heart”

2. “Yet”

3. “Tequila Rain”
