Carnival Music’s Hailey Whitters released this week the video for her song “Black Sheep,” a cleverly constructed track that serves as the title for her upcoming album, due October 2. “Who really wants to be white as snow / the thing about black is the dirt don’t show,” Whitters sings. It’s an edgy melody with a gritty and down-to-earth vocal style – think Miranda Lambert – paired with clever, almost fable-like lyrics that tease metaphorically at the merits of being oneself. It’s a strong showing that sets Whitters apart from the crowd, and portends a strong October release from the artist.
