Hear Dominique Arciero’s Organic, Wistful Song “Emily”

Dominique Arciero recently released her new song “Emily,” the third of five from her upcoming EP. The song features Nickel Creek’s Sean Watkins, with whom Arciero collaborated on the EP. Arciero wrote “Emily” with Max Collins (of Eve 6).

“Emily” has an organic and charming feel, dancing through optimism and wistfulness with delicate grace. The lyric is much less at ease – “it’s murder / watching you pretend to be in love with me / when any fool could see / there’s always Emily.” The song is almost deceptively sunny for a description of a girl that’s stolen the singer’s lover’s heart. As he fakes love, she too feigns ignorance, growing more plaintive towards the song’s end. A simple double-clap permeates the instrumental, giving the song a catchy vibe.

The story is a personal one for Arciero. “I started this idea while I was dating someone and truth be told, it was just too truthful to be told – or, finished,” she shares on her website. “The poor song was shelved until long after we broke up and I was ready to look at it again.”

If Arciero’s vocals on “Emily” sound familiar, it’s not without reason; Arciero was formerly a member of The Lunabelles, who were signed to Sony BNA, her vocals gracing their music including lead single “Looking For A Place To Shine.”
