Aaron Watson made headlines in a big way this year with the release of The Underdog, making history by becoming the first independent artist to debut at #1 on the Country Albums Chart. It’s a record firmly planted in country, with fiddle playing a strong role in the mix and and themes and vocal stylings following suit. With the latest single from The Underdog, “Getaway Truck,” Watson continues in that vein, a punchy and carefree drive into the sunset that champions fiddle and banjo. The Texan manages to find timelessness in what’s come to feel to many like a more traditional sound, replanting country’s roots firmly in southern-sown soil.
