Emily Earle debuted this week her song “Red Rose,” a heart-wrenching ode to loss and the emotions that accompany it.
“I wrote this song for a dear friend,” Earle told PopMatters. “You’re never ready to say goodbye to someone, but when the time comes, you have to tell yourself you’re going to get through the day. This song is about getting through that day.”
While Earle’s voice doesn’t necessarily lean country, her storytelling style and visual lyrics fit in with the Nashville ethos, and her writing exhibits a strength, wisdom, and composure well beyond her years. Both as a writer and an artist, Earle is one to watch.
