A Thousand Horses Releases Strong “(This Ain’t No) Drunk Dial” to Radio

A Thousand Horses - TSS

After recently hitting the top spot on the country airplay chart with “Smoke,” A Thousand Horses is back with a new single called “(This Ain’t No) Drunk Dial”, and it promises to be another hit for the rising trio.

Sonically, “Drunk Dial” borrows from the same palette as their debut, with an airy, southern-rock tinged arrangement, accessible enough for heavy radio play, but enough bite to keep it original. The melody flows nicely with the well-structured lyric, while the hook is memorable without being obnoxious. The group has developed a sound that is fresh and original, but is easy enough to listen to that they could be radio staples for years to come.

Lyrically, the song is simple yet effective, built around the the (aforementioned) effective hook “this ain’t no drunk dial” to express that, similarly to Brantley Gilbert’s “Stone Cold Sober”, a man is indeed not under the influence of alcoholic beverages, and is completely honest in his feelings towards this particular woman. It’s sincere, thoughtful, and vaguely poignant.

Time will tell whether A Thousand Horses have much staying power at radio, but if they stick to their current formula of radio-friendly, somewhat substantial and well-executed love songs, they should have no trouble in the slightest. They are definitely an act to keep an eye on.
